Digging up reasons to celebrate is not unheard of in India. But a family in Diva, a suburb near Thane, Mumbai, took this practice to an entirely new level when they decided host a grand celebration for the “coming-of-age” of their son, who was given his first shave on his 17th birthday recently, reports the Times of India. Invitation cards were sent to hundreds of people from his community and flex banners and posters were put up in the area inviting people for the event on 22 May. A pandal was erected for the same and Dweep cut a three-layer cake to mark the occasion, reports Mid Day. The father said he had been thinking of a unique ceremony for Dweep for eight years. “I did not share my plans with anyone as I didn’t want anyone to steal the idea,” he said, reports TOI. According to the Mid-Day report, the Bhagats belong to the Agri Community, who are known as the original residents of Mumbai.
