The Bengaluru Police has made four arrests, and identified the main accused in the Kammanahalli molestation case where a woman was groped and molested by two men in a scooter in the early hours of 1 January. A News 18 report said that the police have arrested the main accused in the case identified as Leno and Aiyappa. “Two other accused, identified as Raju and Chinnu, have also been arrested. All the accused are residents of Frazer Town in Kamanahalli. A manhunt has been launched to arrest two other accused who are still at large,” it said. According to reports, the incident occurred when they were returning home in an auto after celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends at a pub. According to The Hindu , one of the accused is a goods van driver, two are courier delivery men and another is a B Com student. The newspaper said that two of the accused were working as part-time delivery boys for a restaurant, which the victim used to visit frequently and the accused used to deliver food to the victim’s home, whenever she ordered online, the report said. An FIR was filed suo motu on Tuesday night against unidentified men under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 354A and 354B (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code, IANS had said on Wednesday. The footage showed the victim walking in the close residential area towards her rented accommodation and the the scooter-borne duo turning around and one of them walking across to her. The duo was then seen molesting and dragging her to the two-wheeler, even as she tried to wriggle out, slapping the molester. The video clip also showed the victim falling on the road after escaping from her attackers even as some onlookers watched “the horror” from a distance. On Wednesday, the police had said that they had interrogated at least 30 people for clues on the culprits. The investigation team had also been scanning the CCTV footage. Praveen Sood, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, had tweeted on Wednesday: Earlier, he had said that in cases of molestation where there’s credible evidence, the police will file a suo moto FIR. He also tweeted on Wendesday: However, unlike what reports have said, the arrests made, were not related to the New Year’s Eve night molestation incidents that were reported in the central Bengaluru areas of MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street where molesters had groped and pawed women who had gathered to bring in the New Year.
