Banwarilal Purohit takes oath to become first full-time Tamil Nadu governor since August 2016

Chennai: Banwarilal Purohit was on Friday sworn in as the 25th Governor of Tamil Nadu. At the swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Justice Indira Banerjee administered the oath of office to Purohit.

Purohit took oath in the name of God. Chief Minister K Palaniswamy, his Cabinet colleagues, and DMK working president and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly MK Stalin, were among those present at the ceremony.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan read out the Warrant of Appointment issued on 29 September by President Ram Nath Kovind, appointing Purohit as Governor of Tamil Nadu.

He is the first full-time governor of the state since the retirement of K Rosaiah in August 2016. Maharashtra governor C Vidyasagar Rao had been given additional charge of the state since September 2016.
