The crime reportedly occurred on July 2. “I came to see the what all security arrangments have been made,” one parent told CNN-IBN. “I followed the bus and came till here to see if everything is okay.” A task force comprising parents, teachers and senior students has been set up to implement guidelines to ensure safety and security of the approximately 3,500 students of the school. The school’s founder chairman Rustom Kerawalla was granted conditional bail last week after he was arrested in Daman and flown to the city for interrogation. Kerawalla was booked for destroying evidence of the crime, giving false information to screen the offender and failing to ensure the safety of the victim. Police arrested main accused Mustafa alias Munna, a skating instructor, on July 20. He was sent to judicial custody last week. Meanwhile, the Bangalore police issued fresh guidelines to schools in the Karnataka capital to ensure security of the children enrolled in them. A report in the CNN-IBN said: “In an order to all schools to implement these guidelines, Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddi has said that schools will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) if they fail to follow the guidelines.” All school buses will now be mandated to have GPS and CCTV cameras. CCTV cameras are also to be installed within the perimeter of schools. Among the other measures suggested are that there should be restrictions on interaction between bus drivers and children. Sports facility should be limited to authorized staff only.
