Even as a skating instructor of the Vibgyor School in Bangalore was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 6-year-old student, protests continued in the city over the incident, and against sexual violence at large. News agency ANI reported that the protests by Akhil Bharatiya Vidya Parishad (ABVP) in front of the school turned volatile after the protesters broke police barricades leading to a scuffle with the police. Zee News also reported that the police had to resort to lathi-charge to dispel the protesters. As intense public anger persisted over the alleged inaction by police, civil society activists and parents of students studying at the city-based Vibgyor School where the incident happened, staged protests at Freedom Park. The protests have taken a political turn also with BJP’s minority morcha and mahila morcha today staging demonstration demanding that police immediately arrest the guilty and punish the school management for not taking prompt action. Facing the heat, Auradkar earlier in the day addressed the protesters, assuring them that action will be taken against the guilty and the school management for alleged “inaction”. The opposition parties have also attacked the government over a string of rape incidents and demanded the resignation of state Home Minister KJ George. With PTI inputs
