The Border Security Force has said that the number of ceasefire violations along the India-Pakistan border had increased since the discovery of an illegal tunnel linking the two countries, that was being built allegedly to allow militants to travel across the border.

Indian forces had discovered the  400-meter long tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba sector on 28 July and subsequent lodging of strong protest over the issue on 31 July.

A senior BSF official told Times Now that the number of ceasefire violations along the border had increased significantly since the discovery and closure of the tunnel.

There have been multiple instances of ceasefire violations in August alone and yesterday night’s incident where a intruder was killed was just another instance of it.

“The place where the intruder was killed was right on the fence. Our boys opened fire to neutralise this very real threat,” a senior BSF official said.

When asked if the BSF had recovered the body of the intruder, he said, “It is in process. We have visited the spot.”

The BSF is expected to take up the matter with their counterparts across the border along with prior instances of ceasefire violations along the border.
