Assam to intensify steps against NDFB-S: Gogoi

Guwahati: Measures would be intensified to control the anti-talk NDFB-Sonbijit faction who killed an additional superintendent of police and injured five others in an encounter in Sonitpur today, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said. “We will extend the measures against the outfit for geographic spread so that their camps inside jungles and in remote areas can be targetted. My government has already intensified the steps and we are talking to the Army also for it,” Gogoi told reporters.[caption id=“attachment_1363357” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. PTI[/caption] The NDFB, he said, is indulging in subversive activities and disturbing people by extorting money from them. “This will not be tolerated.” Referring to the gunning down of Sonitpur district additional superintendent of police Gulzar Hussain in an encounter with NDFB-S earlier in the day, Gogoi said probably he and the other police men were not wearing helmet and bullet proof vests during the operation. “Wearing of protective gear like helmet and bullet proof vest will be made compulsory for police personnel carrying out operations against militants,” he said. Hussain was killed, while four policemen and an informer were seriously injured in the encounter at Batasipur under Dhekiajuli police station. PTI
