Assam massacre: Meghalaya CM urges India to unite and wipe out 'domestic' militancy

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has said that there should be a unified war against the perpetrators of terror in the country in the wake of the killings of over 80 Adivasis by NDFB(S) militants in Assam. “Why wage war against terrorists only from outside the country? We must wage a war and wipe out the domestic variety first,” Sangma told PTI. [caption id=“attachment_2019259” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Mukul Sangma. It is already late and everyday precious lives are affected by such acts of brutality.” “We need to correct our mistakes by dealing with this menace once and for all before it is too late,” he said. Urging those at the helms of power both in the Centre and in Assam to adopt a new stringent policy against the perpetrators of crime, he said it was high time to take action and make it visible on the ground. Condemning the blame game adopted by several political parties, he said, “it has always been the tendency to play the blame game after a distressing incident. Personally I feel it is a collective responsibility and instead of blaming one another we should come together to take responsibility.” Meghalaya government has just completed disarming of two dreaded Garo militants, the ANVC and its breakaway faction ANVC-B and talks are on with another outfit that has unleashed terror in at least five districts in the Garo Hills region.
