Guwahati: The Assam government has sought an interim assistance of Rs 2,939 crore from the central government to deal with destruction caused by floods as an inter-ministerial team arrived in the state on Tuesday to assess the damage. [caption id=“attachment_3841907” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]

Reuters[/caption] Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia said the government had submitted to the Centre its own assessment of the economic loss. “The team will visit the flood-affected areas till 28 July and assess the overall damage,” he told the media. The team will conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and will visit Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Barpeta, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts. The Central team is led by V Shashank Shekhar, Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry.
