As the swollen Brahmaputra inundated large parts of Majuli island district, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday visited his flood-hit constituency and assured help to deluge hit people.

Majuli: As the swollen Brahmaputra inundated large parts of Majuli island district, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday visited his flood-hit constituency and assured help to deluge hit people. PTI[/caption] Sonowal asked the district administration to provide relief materials including drinking water to the flood affected people. He also took stock of the medical facilities being provided to the flood relief camp inmates, especially elderly people and children. Directing the administration to ensure supply o nutritional baby food to three relief camps and three distribution centres in the district, Sonowal issued strict instructions so that no flood victim is denied of relief materials. Sonowal visited three relief camps at Kamalabari and Garmur areas and spent time with the flood-hit people and assured them to provide everything possible as he took stock of the relief materials being provided to the camp inmates. In Majuli, 58 revenue villages have been affected wit nearly 48,000 people, 1,760-hectare crop area damaged and hundreds rendered homeless, official sources said. In the current wave of floods 44 lives have been lost in 24 of the 35 districts across the state affecting 17.2 lakh people.
