Arvind Kejriwal visits Delhi police headquarters, gives suggestions to improve law and order

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday visited the Delhi Police Headquarters where he reviewed functioning of the force and gave suggestions for improving law and order, especially women’s security, in the city. PTI[/caption] Kejriwal, who spent nearly three hours at the PHQ, was accompanied by deputy CM Manish Sisodia. During the visit, he was given a detailed presentation by Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi about different aspects of policing in the city and some of the modern technologies being utilised by the force. He was also given a tour of the C4i (Integrated Command, Control and Coordination Centre) and control room of the force and briefed about their working. Talking to reporters after the visit, Kejriwal said that he was “more than happy” with the way the Delhi Police was functioning and assured it of all support from his government. “The way Delhi Police is using modern technology, I am very much hopeful that it would do its best…Only then people of Delhi would live a secure and peaceful life,” the Chief Minister said, adding that “Delhi government and Delhi Police are not separate entities. We are a unit. This is very mean to think that Delhi Police is ours or not. I have assured Delhi Police of my support.” Sources present in the meeting, which was attended by a number of senior police officials, said Kejriwal showed keen interest in understanding the way police functioned and showed positive response. Kejriwal was specifically briefed about the efforts taken by the police to ensure women’s safety including the Himmat App and WhatsApp group. He was also explained about the Uber rape case and the one involving a Danish woman. Despite all odds, teams of Delhi Police were able to nab the accused within record time. During the meeting, Bassi also urged Education Minister Manish Sisodia to initiate self defense training for girl students right from schools. Speaking to reporters, Bassi said, “When I met Kejriwal after he was sworn in, I requested him to come to Delhi Police headquarters and I am happy that he came today.” “The objective was to make him (Kejriwal) aware about what we are doing. We are glad that he assured us to extend all kind of support,” Bassi added. Bassi also clarified that there was no rift between Aam Aadmi Party workers and Delhi Police. The control of Delhi Police has been racked up again and again by the AAP government. Kejriwal’s meeting with Delhi Police officials came a day after he met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. During the meeting, in which all the heads of various wings of Delhi Police were present, Bassi himself introduced his subordinate officers to Kejriwal. A calm and composed Kejriwal listened to each officials carefully and learnt about the technicalities of different departments including monitoring and controlling division, the source added. Highlighting the objectives of Delhi Police, Bassi informed Kejriwal that it has launched various teams, mobile applications and unique softwares to provide safety and security to women, traffic and road safety, street crime, community policing, etc. “Through our 181 police stations and 2,075 beats, we are having strictest vigil at every nook of the city due to which we have been able to not only cracking organised crimes but we have also solved the cases that were very disorientated in the nature,” Bassi said. Bassi also hailed its traffic police staff who have been “successfully” maintaining smooth operation of 85 lakh cars on Delhi roads. PTI
