The procedure has been performed successfully,” a statement issued by the hospital said. “It was a planned surgery. He was admitted at around 6 PM yesterday. The surgery is done in an uncontrolled diabetic situation,” Dr Pradeep K Chowbey at the hospital said. “In this procedure we staple the stomach and make a small pouch of stomach and connect it to the intestine. Thus the food from the small pouch goes to the intestine directly. All this is done endoscopically and laparoscopically,” he said. Chowbey said Jaitley was doing fine and will be discharged in a day or two. Jaitley had underwent a series of routine blood and cardiac investigations before the surgery. According to a Times of India report, Dr Chowbey said that “surgery was for weight reduction and will help him control the appetite and lower his weight from existing 117 kg.” PTI
