The Ministry of External Affairs issued a cautionary advisory on Thursday urging Indian nationals to remain vigilant against human traffickers offering enticing job prospects in Cambodia.
In the advisory, the ministry emphasized the importance of conducting thorough background checks on prospective employers for Indians considering job opportunities in the Southeast Asian nation.
Highlighting the concerning trend, the advisory revealed that Indian nationals are being deceived by fraudulent promises of lucrative job prospects in Cambodia, ultimately falling victim to human traffickers.
According to the ministry, these individuals are often coerced into engaging in online financial scams and other illicit activities against their will.
The advisory serves as a timely warning to Indian citizens, urging them to exercise caution and diligence when exploring job opportunities abroad, particularly in countries where instances of human trafficking have been reported.
“Indian nationals intending to visit Cambodia for employment are cautioned to do so only through authorised agents. It is also advised that the background of the prospective employer in Cambodia is checked thoroughly,” it said.
“In the meantime, the ministry of external affairs, through our mission in Phnom Penh, is working closely with the Cambodian authorities to address the issue as well as provide continuous assistance to the affected Indian nationals,” it added.
