A former student of IIT-Madras, Rohan Lal, 26, hailing from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, found himself in a soup when he attempted to meet a girl he had deep affections for. Donning a burqa as a disguise, he managed to enter the women’s hostel within his alma mater. However, this escapade ended with his arrest by the Kotturpuram police on Monday.. This was not Rohan’s first encounter with the law in connection to similar charges. The authorities had previously booked him for trespassing into the women’s hostel on two separate occasions: February 16 and August 4. In both instances, he was apprehended by the authorities. The latest incident unfolded when vigilant students spotted an individual wearing a burqa on the fifth floor of the hostel and promptly alerted the female security officer, Merin. She, in turn, informed the IIT-M security personnel. When the security guards attempted to apprehend Rohan, he resorted to threats of self-harm, claiming he would jump from the fifth floor. Eventually, he managed to evade capture. Subsequently, following the formal complaint, the police located and arrested Rohan at the Sriram Nagar Colony junction in Taramani. He was then presented before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet and remanded to judicial custody. In a previous arrest on August 4, Rohan’s legal counsel had presented medical records suggesting that he suffered from mental health issues. As a result, he was released into the care of his parents, and the magistrate had insisted on his receiving treatment at a hospital. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Rohan had harboured romantic feelings for a female student, leading him to make repeated attempts to meet her.
