How Anant Ambani's Vantara gave a new life to a severely injured wild jackal

To focus on rescue, treatment, care and rehabilitation of injured, abused and threatened animals, both in India and abroad, Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation, on Monday, February 26, announced the launch of the Vantara (Star of the Forest) programme.

Recently, the Vantara rescue team was handed over a wild jackal which was rescued by the forest department with a history of accident and inability to move its hindquarters.

The team swept into action and moved the animal to a quarantine facility. It was kept under critical care for treatment for pressure injuries and infections.

All efforts were made to make the animal fit and running. As part of the treatment Rradiography investigation was also conducted which revealed an overriding fracture and dislocation of the first lumbar vertebrae.

Once the animal was stable for surgery, correction of the overriding fracture and dislocation was done using k-wires and pinning.

With the help and timely action of the Vantara team, the jackal recovered successfully from surgery. After the required resting period, it was put to physiotherapy in a wheelchair. After few months of physiotherapy the animal made a remarkable recovery.

The jackal has completely recovered now and is thriving.

Vantara is focused on creating best-in-class animal conservation and care practices including state-of-the-art healthcare, hospitals, research and academic centres. Within its programmes, Vantara also focuses on integrating advanced research and collaboration with reputed international universities and organisations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF).

Over the last few years, the programme has rescued more than 200 elephants, and thousands of other animals, reptiles and birds from unsafe situations. It has undertaken initiatives in key species including rhino, leopard and crocodile rehabilitation.

Vantara has a centre for elephants and facilities for several other large and small species including lions and tigers, crocodiles, leopards, etc.

Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant pre-wedding bash in Jamnagar

Jamnagar, which houses Vantara, is prepping up to host the three-day pre-wedding ceremony for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant from March 1 to 3.

Day 1 is called ‘An Evening in Everland’, with the dress code listed as “elegant cocktail".

Day 2 will host ‘A Walk on the Wildside’ with “jungle fever" the suggested dress code.

Day 3 will comprise two events - first - Tusker Trails, suggests “casual chic" dressing, as guests are expected to further explore the green ambience of Jamnagar. The final party, Hashtakshar, calls for an elegant evening with heritage Indian wear.

As per reports, the guest list includes Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Morgan Stanley CEO Ted Pick, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Disney CEO Bob Iger, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Adnoc CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and EL Rothschild chair Lynn Forester de Rothschild.

⁠Many more VIPs will be coming, especially tycoons from India and people from the world of entertainment.

Famous international artists, including Rihanna and magician David Blaine, are set to perform at the pre-wedding festivities. Top Indian musicians who will perform include Arijit Singh, Ajay-Atul and Diljit Dosanjh.
