Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a high-level meeting on Tuesday over the Delhi Red Fort car blast that has claimed the lives of eight people since yesterday.

The blast in the national capital has put most parts of India on high alert, with police ramping up inspection of cars leaving and entering big cities. The incident is being investigated by multiple agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG).

At 6:55 pm on Monday, a Hyundai i20 went up in flames near Red Fort Metro Station Gate No. 1 after it exploded, gutting several other nearby cars and injuring over 24 people. All nearby CCTV cameras are being examined. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Special Branch in-charge, both of whom are present at the site. We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation. The findings will be shared with the public,” said the Home Minister.

“We are analysing footage from nearby roads and toll barriers to map the full movement of the car,” a police official said.
