Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday asserted that the recently amended Waqf (Amendment) Act is untouchable and will remain in force, countering the Mahagathbandhan’s pledge to block it if the alliance comes to power in Bihar.
In a conversation with Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi at the News18 ‘Sabse Bada Dangal’ event ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, Shah criticised the opposition for lacking understanding of the Constitution and reiterated that the BJP would ensure the law’s implementation.
“They don’t understand the Constitution and the law. I want to tell the people of Bihar and India that as long as there is a BJP MP in Parliament, no one can touch the Waqf law. It is the BJP’s promise,” Shah said.

INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav had recently said the Waqf (Amendment) Act would be “thrown into the dustbin" if the opposition alliance came to power in Bihar.
The Waqf (Amendment) Act was passed by Parliament in April. The ruling BJP-led NDA has described the legislation as a move toward transparency and empowerment for backward Muslims and women, while opposition parties have alleged it infringes upon the rights of the Muslim community.
