Amarnath Yatra attack: Rajnath Singh slams Twitter troll, says 'not all Kashmiris are terrorists'

Union home minister Rajnath Singh, in a befitting response to a Twitter user’s advice to “cull” those behind the attack on Amarnath pilgrims, on Tuesday and said that “all Kashmiris are not terrorists”. After the suspected militant attack on Amarnath pilgrims on Monday night, the government found itself in a difficult position as it was expected to explain the security lapses in Kashmir. Singh took to Twitter to condemn the incident.

The people of Kashmir have strongly condemned the terror attack on Amarnath yatris. It shows the spirit of Kashmiriyat is very much alive.

However, he was instantly surrounded with criticism. The Union home minister found himself in the middle of a controversy for lauding the spirit of Kashmir. A Twitter user told Singh that it wasn’t his job to placate the citizens and that he should instead “drag those cowards out and cull them”. The tweet, which particularly caught Singh’s attention, belonged to Shuchi Singh Kalra, an editor of an online publication of the travel website ‘Make My Trip’, The Wire reported. Singh slammed Kalra’s suggestion, and replied to it saying that it was his job “to ensure peace and tranquility in all parts of the country”. Kalra’s tweet has been deleted since.

Ms Kalra I certainly do. It is absolutely my job to ensure peace & tranquility in all parts of the country. All Kashmiris are not terrorists https://t.co/YdTnjDND9i

The home minister was in the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday  reviewing the situation , particularly the two routes to the shrine, located in the Himalayas at an altitude of 12,756 feet. Singh had called for a meeting which was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, top officials of the home ministry, intelligence agencies and central paramilitary forces.
