After Faridkot and Moga, the village of Malliya suffers the latest sacrilege incident in Punjab

Tarn Taran: Punjab continues to be in the grip of alleged sacrilege incidents, even as the locals on Thursday recovered torn pages of the Sikh holy book from Malliya village here, triggering tension in the area. AFP[/caption] The torn pages of the holy book were found by the locals in a polythene bag from bushes in the Malliya village today, Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Singh said. As the news of the incident spread, several Sikhs started gathering at the village, thus escalating tension in the area, he said. Although the situation is tense but it is under control, the SP said, adding that police had taken the torn pages in its custody and launched a probe. Over the last one month, Punjab has seen over 10 incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. The state was in turmoil till some days back, with violent protests being witnessed, in which two persons were killed and several others injured. Torn pages of the holy book were found at three different places in a village in Moga district yesterday. The Punjab police had set up a Special Investigation Team to investigate such cases, with the state government handing over probe of one such incident at Faridkot to the CBI. PTI
