The Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police on Saturday said that the blast in Srinagar’s Nowgam Police Station was “accidental”, ruling out a terror angle to the explosion that killed nine people and injured 27 others.

J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat confirmed that the blast was triggered during the handling of explosive materials that were recovered during a raid in Faridabad earlier this week, linked to the Red Fort explosion case.

“During the investigation in FIR 162 of 2025 of Police Station Nowgam, a huge quantity of explosive substances, chemicals and reagents were recovered from Faridabad on November 9 and 10, 2025," DGP Prabhat said.

“This recovery, like the rest of the recoveries which we have done, was transported and kept securely in the open area of the Police Station, Nowgam. As part of the prescribed procedure, the samples of the recovery had to be forwarded for further forensic and chemical examination. On account of the voluminous nature of the recovery, this process was going on for the past two days, which means yesterday and the day before, by the Forensic Science Laboratory team," he added.

The explosion was triggered while the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), the Tehsildar, and police personnel were handling and checking explosive materials kept inside the premises, which were earlier seized from Faridabad in connection with a “white-collar” terror module case.

The material, part of the 360 kilograms of explosives recovered from the rented residence of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie, was being sampled as part of the ongoing investigation.

Several videos of the explosion’s aftermath have emerged, with one CCTV clip from a nearby house capturing the exact moment of the blast, which obliterated the police station.

The footage shows a sudden, intense flash as the explosion tore through the station, followed by flames rising into the air, visually confirming the immense force of the blast that was heard several kilometres away.
