Aarushi-Hemraj trial: Defence arguments delayed yet again

Ghaziabad: The defence in the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder trial is expected to focus on 28 different circumstances related to the double murder, to counter the CBI’s case against the accused couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar. Despite being scheduled to begin today before a special CBI court in Ghaziabad, final arguments by the defence were delayed for the second time due to a lawyer’s strike. The hearing has been adjourned to Tuesday (22 October). [caption id=“attachment_1184357” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] PTI PTI[/caption] By the CBI’s own admission there is no forensic evidence that connects the couple to the murders. Relying entirely on circumstantial evidence and the “last seen theory”, the prosecution has argued that the Talwars tried to “mislead” the investigation and that they “destroyed” evidence. The prosecution has relied largely on the “conduct” of the Talwars as key circumstantial evidence against them. ( Read full report here ) The argument is that Hemraj was killed in Aarushi’s room and that his body then dragged by the Talwars over the stairs and dumped on the terrace. On the morning of May 16, 2008, 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar was found murdered in her apartment in Noida. A day later, the body of domestic help Hemraj was discovered on the terrace of the three-storey apartment. The Talwars were at home on the night the murders were committed.
