AAP to begin electricity restoration drive from 6 April

In the second planned event during Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder Arvind Kejriwal’s indefinite fast, party volunteers will begin restoring electricity connections in the national capital from 6 April. Arvind Kejriwal’s fast to mobilise masses against the hike in water and electricity fares in Delhi entered the 12th day on Wednesday. While Kejriwal has been staying at a house in Sunder Nagri, a resettlement colony in North East Delhi district, AAP volunteers have been asking people to sign letters saying they will not pay their bills. PTI[/caption] “As the number of protest letters addressed to Sheila Dikshit approaches the 10-lakh figure, the campaign to restore electricity those houses where electricity has been disconnected would be intensified from 6 April,” said a statement released by AAP on Wednesday. Kejriwal has asked AAP volunteers to create a list of all those houses whose electricity has been disconnected by discoms. “Once we stand with people and connect their supplies, it would boost their confidence to stand up against tyrannical law,” said the statement. On Monday, Delhi police halted AAP workers from reaching the chief minister’s residence to submit around seven lakh letters to protest the hike in water and power fares in the city. Bundles of letters collected by AAP volunteers in various wards were put in around 100 auto rickshaws assembled in Sunder Nagri near the fast venue. But police stopped them in Central Delhi, around three kilometres from Dikshit’s residence.
