Canada has been a country of concern for India over its national security as several separatist leaders have found shelter in the North American nation. India has reportedly sought action against eight gangsters with links to pro-Khalistan separatism and Pakistan’s spy agency

India’s External Affairs Ministry (MEA) last week said New Delhi has shared 26 extradition requests with Canada. It also said that India has shared security information on gangs — including the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, currently a point of contention between the countries — but no action has been taken by Canada.

“There are 26 extradition requests pending with the Canadian side. These are over the last decade or more. Along with it, there are several provisional arrest requests which are also pending with the Canadian side of several criminals,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “They are wanted on terror charges and related charges.”

Now, it has emerged that India has sought action against eight Canada-based gangsters. They are wanted in cases related to pro-Khalistan separatism and terrorism. They are also reported to be operating with the backing of the Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The eight gangsters India wants Canada to act against are:

  • Lakhbir Singh: He is known by his alias Landa. He is allegedly connected to two rocket-propelled grenade attacks in Punjab — at the Punjab Police headquarters in Mohali and the Sarhali Police Station in Tarn Taran. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a reward of Rs 15 lakh for providing information that leads to his arrest.

  • Sandeep Singh Sindhu: He is an employee of the Canada Border Service Agency and is a key figure in the list of wanted extremists by India. An Economic Times report said that Sindhu was recently promoted by Canada to the rank of superintendent.

  • Lakhbir Singh Rode: He is said to be closely associated with Sindhu, and also US-based Gurjot Kaur, and is a key figure in the pro-Khalistan separatists operating from Canada.

  • Gurjot Kaur: She claims to be the widow of Pakistan-based Khalistan Liberation Front (KLF) chief Harmeet Singh. She is said to be maintaining close ties with Pakistan’s ISI officers.

  • Arshdeep Singh Gill: Also known by his alias Arsh Dalla, Gill is another person that India wants Canada to act against. He is reportedly tasked with brainwashing youths in India to commit terror crimes in the country. The Punjab Police has issued a look out circular against him.

  • Charanjit Singh: Also known by his alias Rinku Randhawa, Singh is a wanted gangster and a key figure in the list of pro-Khalistan radicals. He is reportedly facing at least 25 criminal cases including that of murder and extortion.

  • Sukhdul Singh: Also known by his alias Sukha Duneke, Sukhdul Singh has more than 30 criminal cases registered against him in Punjab. A look out circular is pending against him.

  • Ramandeep Singh: He is linked to the gang earlier run by Jaipal Bhullar, who was killed in a police encounter in 2021. Ramandeep Singh is the brother of jailed gangster Gagan Judge of the same gang.
