A victim of the 7/11 train blasts, Amit Singh, died of a lung infection on Thursday at the Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. Singh, who was 22-years-old when he was injured, had slipped into coma for nearly seven years.

“He succumbed to lung infection at 6.15pm. He was in deep comatose for a long time and was on the ventilator before his condition deteriorated five days ago,” Dr (Col) R R Pulgaonkar, CEO of Jaslok Hospital told The Times of India .

According to a report by The Hindustan Times , the staff at Jaslok recalled seeing Singh’s mother Meena coming to the hospital every day and tending to her son. She would even plead with her son to stand up.

The report also mentions that Singh’s parents were shocked on hearing about their son’s death as they were expecting him to recover.

On July 11, 2006, Singh, who was then a final-year commerce student, was returning to his Virar residence when a bomb exploded in his train compartment between Bhayander and Mira Road stations.

He was admitted to Jaslok with severe head injuries. and the cost of his hospitalisation was borne by the Western Railways till the end.
