When one hears that a school is organising a musical chairs contest as part of its Grandparents’ Day celebrations, one naturally pictures a cheerful and friendly atmosphere. Mumbai Mirror report, a 60-year-old man allegedly punched a fellow senior citizen. Why? Because that senior citizen defeated the assaulter’s wife in a game of musical chairs. Police lodged an FIR against Santosh Shukla, a retired ONGC employee, for “assaulting, insulting and intimidating” Rajendra Prasad Tiwari after Tiwari was declared the winner of a musical chairs competition in their grandsons’ school, said the report. Tiwari had to be hospitalised after Shukla punched him. “Shukla started alleging that I cheated and that his wife was the rightful winner. He started arguing with me and the organisers. He could not accept that his wife was beaten. Suddenly he lunged forward and punched me,” Mumbai Mirror quoted Tiwari as saying. When a bunch of elderly people start fighting over a game of musical chairs in their grandchildren’s school, you know that the children in the country might need some better role models.
