3 terrorists killed in Jammu's Akhnoor after attack on Army vehicle, say officials

A day after terrorists attacked an Indian Army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have killed three terrorists in Akhnoor area in Jammu region, according to officials

A day after an attack on Indian Army vehicle, three terrorists have been killed in Akhnoor in Jammu & Kashmir, said officials.

Terrorists had fired on an ambulance of the Indian Army on Monday morning in Battal area of Akhnoor in Jammu region. The ambulance was part of an Army convoy moving in the area as part of ongoing operations. The Hindustan Times has reported that that villagers in the area had informed the security forces of the presence of armed terrorists in the area.

Following the attack on the ambulance, officials said that three terrorists were suspected to be involved.

By Monday evening, officials said that one of the terrorists had been killed in the operation that security forces had launched against terrorists.

Special forces personnel, including National Security Guards (NSG) commandoes, were inducted into the area to hunt the terrorists.

2 terrorists killed in 2nd leg of operation

While one terrorist was killed on Monday, two were killed on Tuesday, said officials.

On Monday morning, the PTI reported officials as saying that a second terrorist hiding in village in the Akhnoor area of Jammu region was killed in a gunfight.

Then, around shortly before 10 am, the news agency reported officials as saying that a third terrorists was also killed.

Previously, the agency had quoted officials as saying that the third terrorist was hiding in the forest area near the Assan temple in Jogwan village in Akhnoor area.

Officials said that the second leg of the operation was launched against the terrorists in hiding at around 7 am in the Bhattal Aera of Khour after overnight pause in fighting.

Besides special forces personnel, the Army also pressed four armoured vehicles, BMP-II, into the operation along with helicopters and drones, according to the agency.

String of attacks in J&K

At least 12 people have been killed in J&K in the past two weeks in terrorist attacks.

On October 18, a migrant worker from Bihar was found dead in Shopian. He was shot dead.

On October 20, terrorists killed seven people in Ganderbal district in Kashmir region, including a doctor and six migrant workers at a construction site.

On October 24, terrorists attacked an Army convoy in Baramulla districts and killed two soldiers and two civilian porters.
