NDA leaders hold meetings at BJP President JP Nadda's house ahead of govt formation

The huddle of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda’s residence in Delhi has come to an end.

The leaders of the NDA members held meetings with the top leaders of the BJP.

The huddle at Nadda’s residence took place as President Droupadi Murmu appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India after the NDA staked claim to form the new government. Earlier in the day, the NDA had unanimously elected Modi as the NDA Parliamentary Party leader.

Modi and the Union Council of Ministers will have the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday (June 9) at 7:15 pm, according to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The members of the NDA arrived at Nadda’s residence to hold deliberations as the new government of the alliance took shape.

The leaders of the constituent parties of the NDA held one-on-one meetings with top BJP leaders Nadda, Rajnath Singh, and Amit Shah, according to CNN-News 18.

The first meeting was with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the party was represented by Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, and Sameer Bhujbal. The leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Shiv Sena, Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas), Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) arrived for the meetings.

The following leaders held meetings with the BJP leaders:

• TDP’s N Chandrababu Naidu

• JD-U’s Nitish Kumar, Sanjay Jha, and Lallan Singh

• LJP-R’s Chirag Paswan

• NCP’s Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Sameer Bhujbal

• Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde

• RLD’s Jayant Singh

• JD-S leader HD Kumaraswami

Following his meeting, Jayant said the Cabinet was not subject of the discussions.

“It was a good meeting. There was discussions on the development of the country. There was no discussion on the formation of the cabinet,” said Jayant.

As the BJP has failed to secure a majority of its own, the party needs allies from the NDA to form a coalition government. It has been learnt that TDP, JD (U), Shiv Sena, and LJP (R) have made demands for ministerial berths, other government posts, and a say in the government’s agenda.

As the largest coalition parties after the BJP, the TDP and JD (U) have emerged as kingmakers and have demanded the lion’s share of ministerial berths among the non-BJP members of the NDA. The Firstpost understands that the TDP has demanded eight ministerial berths, the post of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, funds for the development of Amravati as Andhra Pradesh’s capital, and a special economic package for the state. The JD (U) is also understood to have demanded at least three ministerial berths and a common minimum programme for the coalition government.
