Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with Indian security forces in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday, officials said. The operation, codenamed Operation Pimple, is still underway as forces continue to search the area.

“Two terrorists have been neutralized by the security forces in the ongoing operation. Search of the area in progress,” the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

The joint operation was launched on November 7 after security agencies received specific intelligence inputs about an infiltration attempt from across the Line of Control (LoC). “Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Contact established and terrorists trapped,” the Army said earlier.

This latest encounter follows a similar gunfight earlier in the week in Kishtwar’s Chhatru area, where security forces engaged suspected terrorists based on intelligence inputs.

Meanwhile, Army Western Commander Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar on Friday reviewed the operational readiness of troops deployed along the Jammu-Pathankot sector as forces prepare for winter operations in higher altitudes and forested areas.
