12 children killed after school bus collides with truck in Jalandhar

Eleven children were killed and many injured after a school bus collided head on with a truck early this morning in Jalandhar district of Punjab. Initial reports suggested that 25 children in the bus were injured in the accident but PTI reported that 11 children had died in the accident. One more child reportedly succumbed to injuries. [caption id=“attachment_647006” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Representational image. AFP[/caption] A CNN-IBN report stated that the driver of the school bus was also killed in the accident. The mishap took place at 8:AM in Jaheer village when the bus of Akal Academy was taking students to the school, Jalandhar Rural SP (D) Rajinder Singh said. While seven children died on the spot, four succumbed to injuries in a hospital, he said. According to a CNN-IBN report, there were at least 35 children in the bus who were on their way to school. The cause of the accident and who was at fault is still to be ascertained. (with inputs from PTI)
