It has been a tough day in the field for Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 3 of the first Test between India and England at Headingley. The young opener, fielding in the slips and gully region, has dropped three catches in England’s first innings so far, all off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. He has now equalled the record for most catches dropped by an Indian fielder in a single Test innings.

Jaiswal drops again despite solo slip-catching practice

The latest drop came on the last ball of the 85th over when Harry Brook edged a ball from Bumrah towards gully. It was the easiest of chances but Jaiswal couldn’t hold on. Bumrah immediately covered his face in disappointment. Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja also dropped one off Bumrah, taking the total number of dropped chances off the pacer’s bowling to four in this innings, also a joint Indian record.

Bumrah wasn’t the only one frustrated by the dropped catch. Indian captain Shubman Gill, fielding beside Jaiswal, looked annoyed after the latest drop. These missed chances are starting to pile up and could prove costly for India as England continue to fight back.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen putting in some serious extra effort ahead of Day 3. Before the players took the field, the young opener was spotted doing solo slip-catching drills. He had dropped Ollie Pope on 60 on Day 2. The England batter went on to score a century.

Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna came back in the 89th over to dismiss Brook for 99 off 112 balls. His luck finally ran out as Shardul Thakur took a safe catch at deep backward square leg to send the batter back. Brook missed out on the century on his home ground but will be pretty happy with his effort in the first innings.
