India vs England, 1st Test LIVE Score: Team India will be aiming to put up a much better bowling display on Sunday as they eye a sizeable first innings lead over England on Day 3 of the first Test in Headingley. England had ended the second day on 209/3, trailing India’s first innings total of 471 by another 262 runs, with Ollie Pope still going strong on 100, having brought up his second consecutive century.
Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball among the Indians on Saturday, collecting all three wickets, including that of Zak Crawley in the very first over, and ending the day with figures of 13-2-48-3. He could have accounted for more wickets had chances not been dropped off his bowling during the course of the day.
India suffer dramatic batting collapse on Day 2
Earlier, India had suffered a dramatic collapse on either side of the lunch interval on Day 2, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs to get bowled out for 471.
This was after Rishabh Pant joined Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in bringing up a century on good batting strip at Headingley, going past MS Dhoni as the Indian wicketkeeper with most Test centuries in the process.
India were 430/3 with Gill and Pant at the crease, with 600 looking very much within reach. The former’s dismissal, off Shoaib Bashir’s bowling, however, opened the floodgates. Pacers Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the pick of the bowlers with four wickets each for 66 and 86 runs respectively.
