Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday. Kohli dropped the bombshell just three days after India skipper Rohit Sharma stepped down from red-ball cricket. The news from these two players has caused a wave of emotions among fans and former cricketers alike, marking the end of an era in Indian Test cricket.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is still winning hearts even after retiring from Test cricket. A recent video of Kohli’s interaction with a fan outside the Mumbai airport has gone viral. In the video, the fan could be heard expressing how sad he was about Kohli’s retirement from the longest format.
Virat Kohli’s reaction to the fan’s comment
Kohli and his wife, Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma, had just returned from a short spiritual visit to Vrindavan. On Tuesday, the couple met their guru Premanand Govind Sharan Ji Maharaj at his ashram. After that, they flew back to Mumbai from where Kohli is expected to go to Bengaluru to join his IPL team.
As the two were exiting the airport, a fan shouted, “Why did you retire sir? Only because of you I watched Test cricket. Now, I will not watch cricket.”
At first, Kohli didn’t respond to the fan and kept walking toward his car. But as the fan repeated his comment, Kohli turned and politely said, “Jaane dijiye sir” (Let us go, sir), before leaving the spot.

Kohli is expected to join the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad for the resumption of IPL 2025 from 17 May onwards. The BCCI had suspended the league due to security concerns amid the Indo-Pak conflict. However, the apex cricket body of India decided to restart the league and announced the new schedule and venues on Monday.
