India captain Suryakumar Yadav came up with a sharp and witty response, shutting down a Pakistan reporter after he was accused of bringing politics into cricket. Pakistani journalists have consistently accused India of breaching the spirit of cricket since they decided to boycott handshakes with Pakistani players in the Asia Cup 2025.

On Sunday, Suryakumar and Co took another tough stance as they refused to take the Asia Cup 2024 trophy from Mohsin Naqvi , the head of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC). As a result, Naqvi was forced to leave the stadium, but he also left with the trophy, forcing Indian players to lift an imaginary trophy.

India boycotted Naqvi as he has been consistently seen making anti-India remarks and is also the Interior Minister of Pakistan.

In the post-match press conference, Suryakumar Yadav was asked some pointed questions by a Pakistani journalist who tried to imply that the Indian captain had crossed the line by boycotting handshakes and the PCB chief.

“Today you are champions, you played a great game. But the question is, throughout this tournament your behavior towards the Pakistan team has been noticed — you didn’t do handshakes, you didn’t take part in the photo session with the trophy, then you held a political press conference. Do you think that in the history of cricket you are the first captain who has brought politics into the game of cricket?” the reporter asked.

While the Indian media manager intervened and asked SKY not to respond to the question, a witty Suryakumar hit back by pointing out to the reporter that he was looking angry, essentially suggesting that emotions may have gotten the better of him.

“Do I have to answer or not? Gussa ho rahe ho aap (You’re getting angry). I couldn’t even understand your question — you asked four questions at the same time,” said Suryakumar.

Meanwhile, SKY also announced that he will donate all his Asia Cup match fees to the Indian Army.
