Young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the form of his life. The 22-year-old has amassed 618 runs from seven innings in the ongoing Test series between India and England and is the top run-scorer of the series currently. Jaiswal, who made his Test debut against West Indies last year, has amassed three centuries and two double centuries, and he recently recalled his first year with Team India, terming it as “nice” and “challenging”.
“It’s been nice and challenging as well. I’ve been trying to learn how to play on different wickets and make sure that I stay for a long time. It’s been one year with the Indian team, have had a lot of talk with Rahul sir and Rohit bhai on how to change my mindset, I’m trying to keep in mind what my team needs. I want to play according to the situation, I’m preparing the same during the net sessions, speaking with the seniors,” Jaiswal told JioCinema.

With the feat, Jaiswal joined an elite list of Indian players to have scored 600 runs or more in a Test series. The list includes the legendary Sunil Gavaskar (In 1971 and 1978), Dilip Sardesai (1971), Rahul Dravid (In 2002) and Virat Kohli (In 2014, 2016 and 2017).
On Saturday, Jaiswal produced an entertaining knock of 73 wherein he broke Virender Sehwag’s record of most sixes in Tests by an Indian batter in a calendar year. Jaiswal has 23 sixes to his name in just five Tests this year. Jaiswal looked set to score another century on Saturday but was dismissed by spinner Shoaib Bashi, courtesy a low bounce.

“Looking forward to today, we’ll enjoy the game and give our best,” Jaiswal added ahead of the third day’s play of the fourth Test in Ranchi.
India lead the five-match series 2-1 following wins in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot. The fifth Test will be played in Dharamsala from 7 March.
