Former Indian spinner Anil Kumble reminded Yashasvi Jaiswal of his bowling talent besides praising the youngster for his impressive performance in the ongoing Test series against England on home soil. The duo engaged in a chat in Rajkot where India notched a 434-run victory in the third Test on Sunday to secure a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Jaiswal deserves much credit for the dominant win. The young opener registered an unbeaten 214 that helped the hosts set a mammoth 557-run target. His 236-ball innings was laced with as many as 14 boundaries and 12 sixes.
This is the second double-century for Jaiswal in the England Test series. He scored a brilliant 209 in the Vizag Test, which India won by a comfortable margin. While Jaiswal hopes to replicate his sublime form in the remaining matches, Kumble wants the youngster to also roll his arms.
The legendary cricketer reckons Jaiswal has a natural talent for bowling leg-spin deliveries that will no doubt add significant strength to India’s spin department.
“Well done on your batting. But one thing that I have seen which I want you to continue as well is that you have a natural leg spin. Yes, and action. So don’t give up on that. Because you never know when that will come in handy. know you’ve had a back spasm, but when you’re working so much on it. Go tell the skipper to give a few overs,” Kumble told Jaiswal during a light-hearted interaction on JioCinema.
According to Jaiswal, captain Rohit Sharma is already aware of his bowling abilities and perhaps thought about using him during the third Test. “I’m always going and bowling, bowling and bowling. He (Rohit) told me to be ready, and I said yes I am ready,” the 22-year-old said.
