WPL 2025 Retentions: The deadline for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) retentions for the 2025 season came to an end on Thursday (7 November). The initial deadline was 15 October but it was extended to 7 November by BCCI. Currently, the WPL doesn’t have a retention policy like the Indian Premier League (IPL) where the teams have been allowed to retain just six players ahead of the 2025 mega auction.

WPL 2025 retention and auction rules

In WPL, all five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and UP Warriorz – are needed to have a squad of 18 players including six overseas cricketers. They can retain all 18 players or can release a few players. The BCCI will then conduct a mini-auction according to the list of retentions. The auction is expected to take place in December 2024 and while there’s no confirmation, the WPL 2025 is expected to take place in the February-March window.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The overall auction purse for WPL teams is Rs 15 crore. It was Rs 13.5 crore before WPL 2024 and Rs 12 crore before the inaugural season in 2023.
