The India women’s cricket team face Australia in the third and final One-Day International in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, hoping to pull off a rare series victory over the world champions. The Alyssa Healy-led Aussies went 1-0 up in the three-match series with an 8-wicket victory in New Chandigarh. The Women in Blue, however, leveled the series in style with a 102-run thrashing of the Southern Stars at the same venue three days later.

Saturday’s game in the national capital assumes extra significance due to the fact that it will be final match for both teams before the ICC Women’s World Cup gets underway later this month, barring of course the warm-up matches that will be taking place ahead of the tournament.

India wears pink for a special cause

India, meanwhile, were spotted wearing pink for the series decider in Delhi instead of their standard blue kits. This is to promote awareness on breast cancer, which is among the most common cancers among women alongside cervical and ovarian.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her teammates Sneh Rana and Pratika Rawal appeared in a video posted on the BCCI’s social media handles in which they described the pink jerseys as a “reminder of the bigger fight”.

“This pink jersey is a reminder of a bigger fight. This pink jersey is more than just a symbol. Every day we train for uncertainties and this pink jersey is a reminder for you to be prepared and the strength for this fight against breast cancer comes from early detection,” the trio said in the video.
