Virat Kohli may not have made an impact in Delhi’s ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite group stage match against Railways, but his fan-following knows no bounds. So much so that three spectators at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium breached security to touch the veteran India batter’s feet on Day three of the match on Saturday.

Three fans manage to touch Kohli’s feet before being escorted

The incident happened when Kohli was fielding during the first session on Saturday and all three fans managed to invade the field and touch Kohli’s feet before being escorted off by the security personnel. A similar incident happened on Day 1 of the Delhi-Railways match after a spectator entered the ground to touch Kohli’s feet. Kohli is playing his first Ranji Trophy match since November 2012.

He managed to score just six runs in the first innings against Railways but skipper Ayush Badoni (99) and Sumit Mathur (86) scored fifties to take the hosts to 374. At the time of writing this report, Railways were 81/6 with Ayan Chadhari and Rahul Sharma unbeaten.

On Day 1 of the match, fans turned up in huge numbers to watch the match in Delhi. Delhi skipper Ayush Badoni, however, decided to field first but the fans still stayed back to watch Kohli field. Kohli finally walked out to bat on Day 2 of the match, but his stint at the crease lasted for less than half an hour after he was dismissed for just six runs off 15 balls including a boundary. He was dismissed by Himanshu Sangwan.

Kohli managed to score just 190 runs from five Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia Down Under. He had begun the series with an unbeaten century in the first Test in Perth, but a run of inconsistent outcomes with the bat followed soon after. Kohli also struggled with playing outside off-stump deliveries.

Kohli playing the Ranji Trophy match against Railways comes after the BCCI made it mandatory for all centrally-contracted Team India players to turn up for their domestic sides. Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal are others who turn up for their respective states.
