One of the finest cricketers ever to represent Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan’s entry into politics got off to a flying start. Contesting from his constituency of the western town of Magura for the Awami League (AL) party, Shakib succeeded in claiming a victory in the country’s general elections. Shakib’s foray into politics, however, has not been devoid of talking points. In the latest viral video, the Bangladesh skipper can be spotted slapping a fan. Infuriated by the crowd’s reaction, Shakib was seen giving a tight slap to an individual in the now-viral post shared on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. It is not known exactly when the incident took place but according to multiple media outlets, the prolific Bangladesh all-rounder was involved in the scuffle at a polling station to cast his vote.

Shakib’s fiery encounter with fans is not something new and the Bangladesh cricketer often hogged the limelight for all the wrong reasons. From losing his calm on the field to shouting at the umpires or fans, Shakib has made headlines for some bizarre reasons. In March last year, Shakib was spotted hitting a fan during an event in the city of Chattogram in Bangladesh. Shakib’s latest controversial encounter with the fan had no bearing on his electoral performance as he managed to get the better of his opponent with a resounding lead of around 150,000 votes in the Magura constituency, as per Abu Naser Beg, the district’s chief administrator. Shakib had to take a brief hiatus from the game in order to concentrate on his electoral outing but also confirmed that he has not retired from the sport. Shakib had led Bangladesh during last year’s ODI World Cup, held in India. Bangladesh, under the leadership of Shakib, failed to qualify for the semi-finals having registered an eight-placed finish. The 36-year-old has so far featured in 66 Tests, 247 ODIs and 117 T20I matches.
