The ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is just one game away from arriving at its conclusion, with South Africa set to face New Zealand in the summit clash less than 24 hours from now. Both the Proteas and the White Ferns have finished runners-up in past editions, and on Sunday, one of them will be crowned champions for the first time ever, meaning the tournament is set to have a new champion after Australia, England and West Indies.

South Africa had lost to Australia in last year’s final in Cape Town after reaching their maiden final with a victory over England, resulting in the Aussies winning the tournament for the sixth time and completing a hat-trick. The Proteas, however, avenged their defeat in Newlands last year with a dominant eight-wicket victory over defending champions Australia in the first semi-final in Dubai on Thursday.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have reached the final after 14 years after defeating West Indies by 8 runs in a thrilling semi-final in Sharjah on Friday; they had lost to England and Australia in the final of the 2009 and 2010 editions respectively. The Sophie Devine-led Kiws will be hoping to be third-time lucky when they face the Laura Wolvaardt-led South Africans in Sunday’s showdown.
