Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have received a massive boost ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season after their skipper Shreyas Iyer joined the team’s pre-season training camp in the City of Joy on Saturday. Kolkata Knight Riders posted photos of Iyer arriving in the city ahead of IPL 2024. There had been doubts over Iyer’s participation in the initial phase of the IPL owing to fitness issues. Iyer had bee suffering from a recurring back injury and even had to receive treatment during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. Iyer later underwent scans for the same.

During the second Test between India and England in Vizag, Iyer had complained about back spasm. He eventually missed the next three Tests, and while there wasn’t an official word on his exclusion from the squad, Iyer also skipped Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Baroda.
Iyer, however, did play Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu, and in the final against Vidarbha, the 29-year-old scored 95 off 111 deliveries in the second innings.
