Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been suspended for one match and fined Rs 30 lakh for repeated breaches of IPL Code of Conduct. The punishment has been handed after DC maintained a slow over-rate in Match 56 of the IPL against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday (7 May).
This was DC’s third over-rate offence this season. The first came against Chennai Super Kings on 31 March for which he was fined Rs 12 lakh. The second came against Kolkata Knight Riders on 3 April which earned a Rs 24 lakh fine. After the third breach of rules, a suspension and Rs 30 lakh fine have been handed out.
Not just Pant, other members of the Delhi Capitals playing XI, including the Impact Player, have been fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fees - whichever is less.
Pant will miss Delhi Capitals’ crucial fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday (12 May). The winner of the contest will significantly boost their playoff chances .
“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” said a BCCI release.
“As per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the ruling of the Match Referee. Following this, the appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and affirmed that the decision of the Match Referee remains final and binding,” added the statement.
