Rajasthan Royals’ list of retained and released players: Rajasthan Royals decided to retain skipper Sanju Samson and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal along with batting all-rounder Riyan Parag, seamer Sandeep Sharma, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel and West Indian batter Shimron Hetmyer. RR, who won their only IPL title in the inaugural edition in 2008 under the late Shane Warne’s captaincy, decided against retaining with English wicketkepeer-batter Jos Buttler, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal even though the two were strong candidates to feature in that list.

The trio, however, could be brought back into the side later in the auction through a bidding war, with the franchise not having any Right To Match (RTM) cards left by filling all six retention slots. Additionally, Sandeep has not represented India for nine years and has been retained as their only ‘uncapped’ player.
Samson and Jaiswal are RR’s top retentions at Rs 18 crore each while Parag and Jurel have been retained at Rs 14 crore each. Hetmyer has been retained at Rs 11 crore, with Sandeep getting Rs 4 crore that is fixed for uncapped players.
Parag had positioned himself as a strong favourite for retention after finishing as RR’s leading run-scorer last season, while Sandeep remains a key member of the attack as a pacer who can bowl at any stage including and especially the death overs.
