IPL Retention 2025 Highlights:
The D-Day is here. All 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises will have to announce their retention lists and list of released players by 5 PM on Diwali evening – 31 October (Thursday). This will be the first step towards rebuilding their squads ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction which is expected to take place in the last week of November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The IPL teams can retain six players through retentions or by using the right-to-match cards in the mega auction. Overall an IPL team can have a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped (Indian) players.
Who can picked as uncapped players in the IPL retention list?
The uncapped player category is only for Indian players. Any player who is still to make his international debut will be considered an uncapped player. Also, an Indian player who has not played for India in five years and does not have a BCCI central contract will come under the uncapped player category. This means MS Dhoni can be retained by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under the uncapped player category.
What is the auction purse for IPL teams to rebuild their squads?
Each IPL team will be allowed to spend a total of Rs 120 crore on rebuilding its squad including retentions and RTMs. The auction last season was Rs 110 crore.
