After handing over the World Cup trophy to Australia skipper Pat Cummins, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to a crestfallen Indian cricket team in the dressing room. PM Modi consoled and motivated Rohit Sharma and his men who went down to the Aussies in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. In a video released of the dressing room, PM Modi reminded the Indian cricket team that they had done well and had reached the spot in the final after 10 straight wins. He also told the team that they had given their all and have no reason to be disappointed. He also said win or loss wasn’t in one’s hand, what was important was how much the team tried. The Prime Minister joked with Ahmedabad-native Jasprit Bumrah on whether he knew Gujarati while also shaking hands with the likes of coach Rahul Dravid, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul.

Mohammad Shami was one of those who had a chat with PM Modi. Shami shared a picture of him resting his head on the Prime Minister’s shoulder . “Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM Narendra Modi for specially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back,” read the post shared by Shami on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Jadeja also posted a photo of PM Modi having a word with the Men in Blue after the World Cup final. Shami and Indian opening batter Shubman Gill can be seen in the background of the picture shared by Jadeja. “We had a great tournament but we ended up short yesterday. We are all heartbroken but the support of our people is keeping us going. PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the dressing room yesterday was special and very motivating,” Jadeja wrote on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the stands during the second innings of the World Cup final on Sunday. Australia Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were also present to witness the summit clash. Batting first hosts India posted a total of 240 runs.
