Rishi Dhawan has been named as Navdeep Saini's replacement in India A squad.
India pacer Navdeep Saini has been ruled out of India A series against New Zealand A after suffering a groin injury on Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy semi-final match between North Zone and South Zone.
“Navdeep Saini sustained a right groin injury on Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy semi-final match between North Zone and South Zone. He is ruled out of the ongoing tournament and also from the upcoming three-match one-day series between India A and New Zealand A. Saini will now head to the NCA for further management of his injury,” BCCI said in an official statement.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Rishi Dhawan as Saini’s replacement in India A squad,” it added.
BCCI on Friday announced India A squad against New Zealand A in one-day series to be played in Chennai. India A will play three one-day games against New Zealand A under the captaincy of Sanju Samson.
The first match of the series will be played on September 22, while the second match will take place on September 25. The final and third match of the one-day series will be held on September 27.
Samson had a great Indian Premier League 2022, in which his side Rajasthan Royals reached the final. He scored 458 runs in 17 matches at an average of 28.63 and a strike rate of 146.79. Two half-centuries came out of his bat, with the best score of 55. In six T20I matches this year across five innings, Samson scored 179 runs at an average of 44.75. He hit a half-century, a knock of 77 runs against Ireland.

Former Saurashtra captain Kotak has been appointed the head coach of the India A squad in the absence of VVS Laxman, who is currently with the senior team in New Zealand.
Opting to field after winning the toss, Saini (3/21), Saurabh (4/23) and Mukesh Kumar (2/25) helped India A bundle out their opponents for a paltry 112 in only 45 overs.
Both Jaiswal (145) and skipper Abhimanyu (142) scored tons to help visitors surge ahead, and forged a 283-run stand for the first wicket before the former departed. At stumps on Day 2, Tilak Varma (26*) and wicketkeeper-batter Upendra Yadav (27*) were unbeaten for the visitors.
