Mitchell Starc got off to a dream start in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) final between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Chennai on Sunday, getting rid of the dangerous Abhishek Sharma in the very first over. In the fifth ball of the first over of SRH’s innings, Starc cleaned up Abhishek with a peach of a delivery.

The Australia pacer delivered a length ball pitched on middle, but the ball turned away late, beating Abhishek’s defence and crashing onto the top of off-stump. Abhishek looked unbelievably clueless after his dismissal as he managed to score just two runs off five balls.

In the very next over, SRH lost their other star opener in Travis Head, who was edged and caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz off Vaibhav Arora’s ball. Starc struck once again later in the powerplay, removing Rahul Tripathi, who was caught by Ramandeep Singh in front of square leg.
SRH were restricted to 40/3 inside the powerplay phase, after six overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy (8*) and Aiden Markram (15*) were unbeaten at the time. Starc’s figures at the time read 2/14 from three overs. SRH are hoping to clinch their second IPL title this year, whereas two-time champions KKR haven’t won the title since 2014, when they had beaten Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the final under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy.
