Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL Final Toss: Sunrisers Hyderabad win the toss, and skipper Pat Cummins opts to bat.
While KKR retain the XI that thrashed SRH by 8 wickets in Qualifier 1, the ‘Orange Army’ bring in Shahbad Ahmed in place of Abdul Samad.
Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL Final preview: It’s that time of the year again. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will lock horns in the final of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. It’s a battle of equals as both teams have had similar fortunes during the course of the tournament.
In fact, KKR and SRH had finished first and second in the IPL 2024 points table, and had only locked horns last week in Qualifier 1, when Venkatesh Iyer (51*) and Shreyas Iyer (58*) starred in an eight-wicket win in Ahmedabad.
However, the final on Sunday will be a different ball game together. For KKR, the onus will be on openers Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to provide their team an explosive start, whereas SRH bowlers, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, will look to get those crucial wickets in the powerplay phase.
SRH, too, boast of an explosive opening pair in Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, although the two have relatively found the going tough in recent matches. It’s paramount that others like Rahul Tripathi, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy step up too in case the openers have an off day.
Teams:
Kolkata Knight Riders: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (w), Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nitish Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen (w), Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, T Natarajan.
