And that brings us to the end of what turned out to be a blockbuster of a contest between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, with Rohit Sharma and Co sealing their spot in the playoffs after emerging triumphant, but only after a resilient Manish Pandey helped end tie the game and take it into a Super Over.

We have another virtual knockout on Friday, with Kings XI Punjab hosting Kolkata Knight Riders at Mohali, with the losing side certain to bid goodbye to their playoff hopes. Do follow our coverage of the match tomorrow.

For now, it’s time for us to bid you all good night!

04:06 PM (IST)

Jasprit Bumrah: Sometimes the mind can get too negative. I just have to focus on the ball I have to bowl. Try to execute. There’s always pressure, but you try not to think about it. Just try and focus on what the team needs me to do. One ball at a time. If you back your own decision, it’s the best way to go forward.

04:06 PM (IST)

Rohit Sharma: It’s good that we have qualified for playoffs. We have played consistent cricket and have results for it. Runs on the board are always in a crucial game. We knew we had bowlers to put pressure on their batters. Manish batted really well. Played some great cricketing shots. Bumrah keeps improving. He delivers every time he gets the opportunity. He held his nerve in the Super Over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Jasprit Bumrah wins the Man of the Match Award!

04:06 PM (IST)

Mumbai into playoffs now!

04:06 PM (IST)

Super over is about small margins. Pandey committed the cardinal sin of gifting a wicket first ball in the powerplay. From there, the Sunrisers were always behind in the contest and despite a six in the over from Nabi Mumbai closed it easily in the end. A great game of cricket still and eventually a win for Mumbai’s attritional style in the field where they try to commit fewer mistakes and wait for the batsmen to make their own. Kind of Dhoni like approach with the ball. The win ensures a playoff berth for the team. Sunrisers live to fight another day with calculators in hand and prayers for other results to go their way on their lips.

04:06 PM (IST)

Kane Williamson: Fantastic effort to get so close from Manish Pandey and the lower order. It was a good effort from bowling department as well to keep MI batsmen quiet. It was a pretty good first half but we couldn’t get over the line. Rashid is world class and we thought he was our man. When it gets down to the last ball, it’s a shame. But there is a game left.

04:06 PM (IST)

SRH send Pandey and Nabi out to face the Super Over, with Bumrah getting the ball as expected. Time to get into the ball-by-ball coverage again.

04:06 PM (IST)

Manish Pandey, you gem. Never lost his composure even as he was running out of partners. Took whatever he could against Bumrah. Waited for the weak link in the last over. Before that he single handedly kept the chase afloat through the middle overs. Almost a Dhoni like affort this from this stylish middle order batsman from Karnataka. It’s super over time now. Two gun bowlers to face off from each side. Who can hold his nerves from here?

04:06 PM (IST)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 19 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 146/5 ( Manish Pandey 62 , Mohammad Nabi 24)

Bumrah bowls the crucial penultimate over. Single collected off each of the first four deliveries as the pacer bowls to the field, hardly giving the two batsmen any room or time to get the big hits. Pandey flicks a full toss from Bumrah for a four off the penultimate ball.Another full toss, and Pandey makes it back-to-back fours. Sunrisers have hope going into the final over. SRH need 17 to win off 6 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Back-to-back fours to end the penultimate over, and Pandey has kept the Sunrisers alive in this game! SRH 146/5

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Pandey flicks a full toss from Bumrah towards the square-leg fence, where the ball lands just short of the boundary cushion. SRH 142/5

04:06 PM (IST)

After 18 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 134/5 ( Manish Pandey 52 , Mohammad Nabi 22)

Malinga bowls his final over and starts off with a dot, before Nabi collects a boundary off an inside edge next ball. Two singles and a dot off the next three balls, before Nabi ends the over with a six, giving his team some hope heading into the last two overs. SRH need 29 to win off 12 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Nabi ends the over with a bang, slicing a full delivery from Malinga over deep backward point! SRH 134/5

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Nabi collects a boundary off an inside edge, but the Sunrisers will need them whichever way they can. SRH 126/5

04:06 PM (IST)

Bumrah is just so hard to get away in these situations. Like a number of other bowlers this season, he is using the short pitch deliveries well to keep the batsmen guessing. With a lot of pitches offering variable bounce this season, bowling it hard into the pitch is an option that is exploited well by the bowlers.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 17 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 122/5 ( Manish Pandey 51 , Mohammad Nabi 11)

Bumrah returns to the attack, and concedes seven off the over, including a boundary to Nabi off the penultimate delivery. A boundary an over won’t do for the Sunrisers, who need a big over to stay in the hunt. SRH need 41 to win off 18 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Swivelled away towards the square-leg fence by Nabi off a back-of-length ball from Bumrah! SRH 121/5

04:06 PM (IST)

You wouldn’t associate T20 with attritional play but Mumbai Indians are a master at picking wickets just by piling and sustaining the pressure. The spinners were keeping Pandey and Shankar on a leash. With the required rate climbing, they were waiting for a mistake from the batsmen and Shankar played into their hands when he mistimed his attempted lofted drive over long on. Mumbai will be feeling confident of closing this given they are now into the misfiring SRH middle order. Pandey is the only hope for the orange army now.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 16 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 115/5 ( Manish Pandey 50 , Mohammad Nabi 5)

Malinga returns to the attack. Good work by Krunal at deep cover saves a couple of runs for the hosts. Malinga then keeps it tight for the next four deliveries, with just three runs coming off it, before Pandey brings up his half-century with a boundary straight down the ground. Nine off the over. Timeout signalled at the end of the over. SRH need 48 to win off 24 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Drilled down the ground by Manish Pandey, who brings up his half-century off 37 balls in the process! Pandey’s presence is crucial is Sunrisers are to collect a win in this game. SRH 115/5

04:06 PM (IST)

After 15 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 106/5 ( Manish Pandey 46 , Mohammad Nabi 1)

Hardik is brought into the attack for the first time in the 15th over.  A misfield by Rohit at extra cover followed by a late throw by Sran from the deep allows Pandey to collect a double off the first delivery. Hardik though, strikes two deliveries later, getting Abhishek caught behind for 2. Nabi walks out to bat, and gets off the mark with a single off the last ball of the over. Four runs and a wicket off the over. SRH need 57 to win off 30 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

OUT! Sunrisers are five down now as Abhishek under-edges the ball to the keeper, with De Kock collecting a low catch behind the stumps! SRH 105/5

Abhishek c De Kock b Hardik 2(3)

04:06 PM (IST)

This is Manish Pandey’s fourth consecutive 35-plus score this IPL.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 14 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 102/4 ( Manish Pandey 43 , Abhishek Sharma 2)

Krunal grabs his second wicket off the second delivery of his final over, as Shankar holes out to Pollard at long on to depart for 12. Abhishek chips the ball towards mid off to get off the mark with a single off his first ball. Pandey pulls towards deep midwicket for a single to bring up the team 100. Single collected off each of the last two balls, as Krunal signs off with excellent figures of 2/22. The required rate goes above the 10-an-over mark for the first time in the innings. SRH need 61 to win off 36 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

OUT! Shankar departs, the pressure to get boundaries more often getting the better of him in the end .Lofts the ball down the ground, but doesn’t get the distance. Pollard ends up collecting it rather easily at long on. SRH 98/4

Shankar c Pollard b Krunal 12(17)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 13 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 97/3 ( Manish Pandey 40 , Vijay Shankar 12)

Rahul signs off with figures of 0/21 from four overs, conceding four singles off his final over of the match. This has been a slow partnership so far, but Pandey and Shankar are laying the foundation for a late assault. Just have to get the occasional boundary to keep the required rate under check. SRH need 66 to win off 42 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

This is poised nicely at around the mid way mark. Mumbai are just starting to find ways to keep Pandey quiet who along with Shankar is looking to stay busy and keep up with the chase. Once again, the two remaining overs of Bumrah will be the key from here.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 12 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 93/3 ( Manish Pandey 38 , Vijay Shankar 10)

Pandey continues to collect the odd boundary on offer while rotating the strike with singles, as seven runs are collected off Krunal’s third over. SRH need 70 to win off 48 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! The boundaries are helping Sunrisers bring the required rate down and ease off some of the pressure. Pandey goes for the inside-out loft towards deep extra cover, collecting his fifth boundary in the process. SRH 91/3

04:06 PM (IST)

After 11 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 86/3 ( Manish Pandey 33 , Vijay Shankar 8)

Chahar into his third over. Pandey somewhat ruins what was turning out to be a fantastic over by collecting a boundary off the last delivery, while also easing some of the pressure off his back. SRH need 77 to win off 54 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! A welcome boundary for the Sunrisers after the slow-down in the last few overs. Pandey pulls the back-of-length ball from Chahar towards deep square-leg, where Roy fails to prevent the boundary. SRH 86/3

04:06 PM (IST)

After 10 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 80/3 ( Manish Pandey 28 , Vijay Shankar 7)

Shankar collects a single off the first ball. “Catch” is the call as Pandey chips the ball towards extra cover, where the ball lands short of the fielder. The match situation is a 50-50 at the halfway mark in the Sunrisers’ innings, with the visitors needing 83 off 60 balls with seven wickets in hand.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 9 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 75/3 ( Manish Pandey 26 , Vijay Shankar 5)

Another good over from Chahar, with just five coming off it, including a double to Pandey off the last delivery. The spinners have so far done a good job in containing Sunrisers’ run flow. SRH need 88 off 66 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

Williamson hasn’t been in great form this IPL, but his wicket still carry huge value for the opposition. SRH needed his calming presence in the middle to see them through in this chase. Brilliant review from Krunal and Rohit.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 8 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 70/3 ( Manish Pandey 23 , Vijay Shankar 3)

Good over from Krunal, one in which he traps Kane Williamson lbw off the very first delivery, and concedes five singles off the remaining deliveries of the over. Mumbai back in the game with three wickets. SRH need 93 off 72 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

OUT! Krunal collects a wicket off his first delivery of the evening, trapping Kane Williamson lbw for just 3! The appeal was initially turned down by the umpire, and it was de Kock who showed a lot of excitement, giving Rohit enough confidence to go for the review. And it paid off, as MI net the SRH skipper. SRH 65/3

Williamson lbw Krunal 3(7)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 7 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 65/2 ( Manish Pandey 21 , Kane Williamson (C) 3)

Chahar leaks a boundary off his first delivery of the evening, as Pandey guides the ball behind square towards third man. Three dots follow, with a single coming off each of the last two deliveries. SRH need 98 off 78 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Pandey greets Chahar into the attack with a boundary, guiding the ball past the man at slip, the ball then running away to the third man fence. SRH 63/2

04:06 PM (IST)

Manish Pandey v MI in IPL: 16 innings, 477 runs, 31.80 average

04:06 PM (IST)

After 6 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 59/2 ( Manish Pandey 16 , Kane Williamson (C) 2)

Outstanding over from Bumrah under the circumstances, as he gets rid of Guptill by trapping him lbw off the first delivery, and concedes just two off the over. Williamson walks out to bat, and gets off the mark right away. Timeout signalled at the end of the over. SRH need 104 off 84 balls.

04:06 PM (IST)

Bumrah is really feeling it today. His reaction when he got the first wicket showed that he is pumped. Guptill was looking to stay busy in his brief stay at the crease but Bumrah’s in dipper was just too good for him on the day. Who is going to put up his hand for Mumbai and support Bumrah is the question now coz they are leaking runs in the field.

04:06 PM (IST)

OUT! Wicket number two for Jasprit Bumrah, as Sunrises lose both their openers now! Bumrah successfully appealing for leg before. Guptill opts for the review in the last second, and the visitors end up losing their review after getting three reds on Hawk Eye. SRH 57/2

Guptill lbw Bumrah 15(11)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 5 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 57/1 ( Martin Guptill 15 , Manish Pandey 16)

Malinga brought in place of the expensive Sran. Guptill collects a single at the start of the over, but is Pandey who makes merry in the over, smashing two fours and a six before collecting a double off the last delivery. 17 off Malinga’s second.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Back-of-length from Malinga, and Pandey nudges this past short fine leg! SRH 55/1

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Fifty comes up for SRH in no time! Short ball to Pandey from Malinga, and the batsman uses the pace on offer to ramp it towards third man! SRH 51/1

04:06 PM (IST)

Timely strike for Mumbai as Saha goes back after a well compiled 25. Hyderabad are going at 10 an over in the first four overs without looking to take too many risks. Just shows how good this pitch is. Were Mumbai batsmen too conservative in their approach earlier in the evening?

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Muscled away past mid on by Pandey as the No 3 batsman gets off the mark in style! SRH 45/1

04:06 PM (IST)

After 4 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 40/1 ( Martin Guptill 14 , )

Rohit turns to Bumrah in the fourth over in order to get a breakthrough, and the star pacer starts off on a rough note by conceding a boundary to Saha off the first delivery. Single off the next two deliveries, followed by a dot. Saha collects another boundary, this time off the penultimate delivery, but is caught at backward point by Lewis to depart for 25. 10 runs and a wicket off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

OUT! Saha’s flourishing start comes to an end, as he holes out to Lewis at backward point. Bumrah gets the breakthrough that Mumbai were looking for. SRH 40/1

Saha c Lewis b Bumrah 25(15)

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Pulled away towards deep midwicket by Saha off Bumrah. Pollard tries to play some football, kicking the ball back inside, but that hardly helps MI. Pollard also ends up colliding against the advertising board. SRH 40/0

04:06 PM (IST)

Lasith Malinga has taken 13 wickets against SRH in IPL – the joint third most by any player. (8 matches, 16.61 average)

04:06 PM (IST)

Guptill and Saha are already rotating the strike much better than the Mumbai batsmen which means the occasional boundary would keep then on track with the run rate. This is not a huge total they are chasing, they will be happy with wickets in hands at the end of the powerplay even if they don’t get off to a flier.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Now Bumrah begins his spell by leaking a boundary, with Saha pushing at a full delivery from the pacer past mid on. SRH 34/0

04:06 PM (IST)

After 3 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 30/0 ( Wriddhiman Saha (W) 16 , Martin Guptill 13)

Sran continues from the other end. Guptill sets off for a single at the start of the over. Saha then slashes the ball through backward point to collect his second boundary, and gets a third one when he muscles a slightly shorter one from Sran over mid on. Guptill lofts the ball over long off for a maximum off the last delivery. Big over for Hyderabad, as Sran leaks 17 off it.

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Guptill makes a powerful statement with that lofted drive over long off! SRH 30/0

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Muscled over mid on has Saha! Turning out to be a very expensive second over for Sran! SRH 23/0

04:06 PM (IST)

MI have let everyone down with their first innings total!

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Saha slashes a length ball from Sran past backward point, where Chahar puts in a dive but can’t quite get his hand close to the ball. SRH 18/0

04:06 PM (IST)

After 2 overs,Sunrisers Hyderabad 13/0 ( Wriddhiman Saha (W) 7 , Martin Guptill 6)

Malinga bowls from the other end. Saha sets off for a single after a couple of dots at the start of the over. Guptill collects his first boundary, albeit a streaky one, off the fourth ball, and gets an edge off the fifth that nearly results in a catch for the man at short third man. Six off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Streaky boundary for Guptill, who gets an under-edge, with the ball travelling wide of the fielder at slip. SRH 12/0

04:06 PM (IST)

After 1 over,Sunrisers Hyderabad 7/0 ( Wriddhiman Saha (W) 6 , Martin Guptill 1)

Both Saha and Guptill get off the mark in the first over of SRH’s chase, the former doing so with a square drive that fetches him a boundary off the very first delivery of the innings. Seven conceded by Sran off his first over.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! What a way for Saha to get both himself as well as the visitors off the mark, steering the full delivery from Sran behind point for a boundary! SRH 4/0

04:06 PM (IST)

SRH’s RR of of 9.3 in PP overs (1-6) this season – the best among all the teams.

04:06 PM (IST)

Wriddhi Saha walks out to open the SRH innings, and accompanying him to the crease is Kiwi opener Martin Guptill, David Warner’s replacement. Barinder Sran to start off with the ball for the home team.

04:06 PM (IST)

Mumbai end with 162. A fighting total, albeit not a match winning one. The innings promised much more right from the start but they kept losing wickets at wrong times and never managed to find that extra gear. Williamson’s sharp captaincy deserves much credit for it as he shuffled around his bowlers meticulously and made sure he held back the correct bowlers for particular matchups. De Kock carried his bat through the innings but despite being set scored only around 40 percent of the total runs. His struggle to get away from strike summarized the Mumbai batting in this game and throughout the season in general. Their batsmen have been guilty of playing too many dot balls between the big hits and that has cost them a game or two.

04:06 PM (IST)

MI today:

First 10 overs : 76/1 (RR : 7.60)

Last 10 overs : 86/4 (RR : 8.60)

04:06 PM (IST)

After 20 overs,Mumbai Indians 162/5 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 69 , Krunal Pandya 9)

SRH need 163 to win!

MI lost Pollard on first ball as he top-edged the slower bouncer to deep backward square leg. Three singles then. A six for Krunal as he slams the short ball over mid-wicket. Double on last ball. 11 off the over as MI post 162/5 in 20 overs.

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! A much-needed six for MI. Another short ball from Khaleel and Krunal dispatched that over mid-wicket

04:06 PM (IST)

Mumbai Indians haven’t been allowed to get away in these death overs. The Hyderabad bowlers have varied the pace and length well to keep the power hitters in the Mumbai lower order mostly under check.

04:06 PM (IST)

WICKET! POLLARD DEPARTS!

Pollard c Abhishek Sharma b Khaleel Ahmed 10(9)

Smart bowling from Khaleel. Went for a slower bouncer against Pollard who cleared his front leg for a pull shot but pace beat him and the top edge flew to deep backward square leg.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 19 overs,Mumbai Indians 151/4 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 67 , Kieron Pollard 10)

Excellent over in the death by Bhuvi. Just four singles as MI cross the 150-run mark. They need big runs in final over to post a big total.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 18 overs,Mumbai Indians 147/4 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 65 , Kieron Pollard 8)

A single on first ball for QDK as Pollard comes on strike for a contest against Rashid. Leggie bowls next ball on shorter length and Pollard got deep in his crease to smoke it over long on for a six. A four for QDK as he managed to get some bat with his sweep shot to put the ball to fine leg fence. 13 off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! QDK went for a sweep, almost missed it but then managed some bat on it finally to get a four through fine leg

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Pollard goes big. Too short from Rashid and Pollard got deep into his crease to muscle it over long on fence

04:06 PM (IST)

After 17 overs,Mumbai Indians 134/4 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 59 , Kieron Pollard 1)

A beamer away from body on first ball by Thampi. QDK fails to make most of free-hit, adds just a single but then slices the full ball on off for a four to bring up his fifty in 48 balls. Slowest of this season. Whacks the full toss next ball over cow corner for a six. 14 off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Kieron Pollard v Rashid Khan in T20s: Dismissals – 1, Runs – 28, Balls – 36

04:06 PM (IST)

Kieron Pollard’s batting average against SRH in IPL is 43.85. (307 runs, 11 innings)

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! That was gift from Thampi. Full toss as de Kock picked it off pads to launch it beyond cow corner fence

04:06 PM (IST)

FIFTY! FOUR! Another half-century for de Kock. Sliced the full ball past point fielder to get to his fifty. Slowest fifty of this season, in 48 balls

04:06 PM (IST)

After 16 overs,Mumbai Indians 121/4 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 47 , Kieron Pollard 0)

SRH have averted the Hardik threat tonight.Credit to Bhuvi. Bowled short and cramped him for room as he sliced it to long off fielder from the top of his bat. Meanwhile, some good fielding from Shankar and Guptill allowed SRH save two fours. Seven off the over and Pollard is in the middle.

04:06 PM (IST)

Hardik Pandya got up and running without wasting any time. Rashid Khan is one of the rare bowlers in the IPL he treats with respect, but allowing him to get away with just 4 runs an over in the fifteenth was taking that respect too far. De Kock should have been the one to go after Rashid, and even if he had perished in the effort, Mumbai would have sent a big hitter to replace him. In the end, the pressure of playing out Rashid got to Hardik who tried to go after a well-directed bouncer from Bhuvi. Not for the first time on this Wankhede wicket, we see a batsman getting hurried into playing the horizontal bat shot against a bowler prepared to bend his back.

WICKET! MI LOSE HARDIK!

Hardik Pandya c Nabi b Bhuvneshwar 18(10)

Short is what you want to bowl against Hardik. Bhuvi went short and cramped Pandya for room as he sliced it to long off fielder from top of his bat.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 15 overs,Mumbai Indians 113/3 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 45 , Hardik Pandya 13)

QDK takes a single first ball to bring Hardik on strike against Rashid but no fireworks as three more singles follow. Two dot balls at the end.

04:06 PM (IST)

Change of approach necessary for QDK?

04:06 PM (IST)

After 14 overs,Mumbai Indians 109/3 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 43 , Hardik Pandya 11)

An over of two lovely shots from Pandya! Thampi bowled in his slot as Pandya picked it off his pads for a massive flick over cow corner for a six. Slammed the length ball on off through cover for a four. A four for QDK as well as he pulled one to wide of long on. 16 off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Poor bowling. On length, outside off by Thampi and Pandya slammed it through cover with a shot on the up

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! QDK gets a boundary! Pulls the short ball over the circle to mid-wicket fence for a four

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Hardik has added so much variety to his own game. Thampi bowled on length which was whipped with a helicopter-flick over mid-wicket

04:06 PM (IST)

Key battle!

Hardik Pandya v Rashid Khan in T20s: Dismissals – 2, Runs – 14, Balls – 26

04:06 PM (IST)

Hardik Pandya’s SR of 198.32 this IPL – the second highest among all the players. (Min. 10 balls faced)

04:06 PM (IST)

Surya fails to convert another good start this season. He went after Khaleel at the start of the twelfth over, and it looked like Mumbai are pressing the pedal but Surya’s departure may peg them back for a couple of overs. It wasn’t a special delivery from Khaleel, but Surya just drove it right down the throat of deep cover. Surya was replaced by Evin Lewis which might surprise a few given the form Hardik Pandya is in. With Lewis at the crease, Williamson got the perfect chance to bowl Nabi out and also pick a wicket in the bargain. Hardik Pandya may have to do a Andre Russell style presser to convince his team management to bat him higher up the order.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 13 overs,Mumbai Indians 93/3 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 38 , Hardik Pandya 0)

Three dot balls for Nabi first up followed by the wicket of Lewis. Nabi did well by offering very little pace as Lewis’ wild hoick across the line is taken at deep mid-wicket. Double on last ball.

04:06 PM (IST)

WICKET! LEWIS DEPARTS!

Lewis c Shankar b Nabi 1(6)

There was no pace on the ball as Lewis went against spin for a big hoick over cow corner. Failed to get the force behind his shot and Shankar took the catch in the deep.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 12 overs,Mumbai Indians 91/2 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 36 , Evin Lewis 1)

QDK starts the over by depositing the length ball from Khaleel into stands beyond deep square leg for a maximum. It also brought up 50 partnership but Surya fell immediately as he sliced the fuller delivery to deep point fielder on off. 10 off the over. Lewis joins QDK.

04:06 PM (IST)

WICKET 54-RUN PARTNERSHIP BROKEN!

Suryakumar Yadav c Rashid Khan b Khaleel Ahmed 23(17)

Fuller length ball on off by Khaleel and Surya went for a slog but his slice shot goes straight to the fielder at deep point. Surya throws away the start again.

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Amazing timing! 50 partnership up. Length ball at waist height picked from QDK from in front of his pads and deposited into stands behind deep square leg

04:06 PM (IST)

After 11 overs,Mumbai Indians 81/1 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 27 , Suryakumar Yadav 23)

Rashid called back into attack. Starts off with two singles. Dot ball. Two leg byes. A single to long off followed by another dot ball. No risks taken in this over. Five off it.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 10 overs,Mumbai Indians 76/1 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 25 , Suryakumar Yadav 22)

Another over for Thampi. Seven more runs conceded. Three leg byes. Double for QDK with a shot to long on. Two singles for him as well. MI would look to up the ante now after all they will be bowling second and dew will come into play.

04:06 PM (IST)

Suryakumar Yadav has looked in good touch right from the start. De Kock has struggled to rotate the strike especially against the spinners and despite getting some boundaries away he is struggling to score at a run a ball. Nabi has been handy during this period. Williamson is looking to hold back Rashid Khan’s over for the big hitters down the order. If a wicket falls at this stage, it will be interesting to see who comes in next for Mumbai.

04:06 PM (IST)

Suryakumar Yadav this IPL:

20+ scores : 8*
50+ scores : 1

04:06 PM (IST)

After 9 overs,Mumbai Indians 69/1 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 21 , Suryakumar Yadav 22)

Dot ball. Single. And then a six. Surya clobbered the tossed up ball from Nabi over cow corner for a maximum. Two more singles and another dot ball. Nine off the over. Time for strategic break.

04:06 PM (IST)

SIX! Surya punishes Nabi for tossing the ball up as he got under the delivery to smash it over the cow corner for a maximum

04:06 PM (IST)

After 8 overs,Mumbai Indians 60/1 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 19 , Suryakumar Yadav 15)

Thampi gets to bowl the first over of this IPL. Seven off it. QDK got a four as well. Opened the face of bat late to guide the outside off ball to third man fence.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Behind square on off! The angle was into him from round the wicket from Thampi and QDK did well to open the face of the bat late to guide it on off

04:06 PM (IST)

After 7 overs,Mumbai Indians 53/1 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 14 , Suryakumar Yadav 14)

Three singles followed by a four for Surya. Used his bottom-hand to perfection to flick the off-spin from Nabi to the gap between long-on and deep mid-wicket fielder for a four. Two more singles. Nine off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Very well played! Surya picked the length ball from Nabi early to flick it to the gap between deep mid-wicket and long on fielder

04:06 PM (IST)

Mumbai squanders a solid start in the last over of the powerplay. The pitch looks full of runs and Rohit was looking in ominous form. But the pressure created by Rashid Khan in the fifth over where he bowled five dot balls probably forced Rohit to overcompensate in the next over from Khaleel but got one to bounce extra on him and ended up skying a catch. This is what you get with Wankhede. If you are prepared to bend your back as a fast bowler then you can surprise a few batsmen.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 6 overs,Mumbai Indians 44/1 ( Quinton de Kock (W) 11 , Suryakumar Yadav 8)

Rashid Khan’s quite over did the job for SRH. Rohit went for a pull on first ball off Khaleel as he edged it to mid-on. Gave away a good start. Surya got off the mark with a pull shot four and finished the over with another boundary through cover. Eight off the over. Powerplay up.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Shot of a confident guy! Length ball outside off and Surya slammed it through cover

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Suryakumar Yadav gets off the mark! Short arm pull from close to body to deep mid-wicket for a boundary

04:06 PM (IST)

WICKET! MI LOSE ROHIT!

Rohit c Nabi b Khaleel Ahmed 24(18)

Probably the pressure of few good overs got to Rohit. Went for a pull shot as the ball bounced a bit too much and the top-edge was taken by Nabi at mid-on

04:06 PM (IST)

After 5 overs,Mumbai Indians 36/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 24 , Quinton de Kock (W) 11)

Rashid Khan bowls a over in powerplay. Keeps it tight. Just one from it on first ball as Rohit played a straight drive. de Kock struggling to read the googlies.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 4 overs,Mumbai Indians 35/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 23 , Quinton de Kock (W) 11)

Rohit takes a single on first ball followed by two poor deliveries. de Kock flicked the slightly fuller ball on his pads to fine leg fence before pulling the short ball to deep backward square leg boundary. Three dot balls to finish. Nine off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

Here’s a look at the qualification scenario

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Poor bowling. Short, on leg as de Kock pulls it from his waist height to deep backward square leg boundary

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! A bit full and on the pads from Bhuvi as de Kock flicked it on leg to beat the short fine leg fielder for a boundary

04:06 PM (IST)

After 3 overs,Mumbai Indians 26/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 22 , Quinton de Kock (W) 3)

‘The President’ Nabi bowls a good over to keep MI quiet temporarily. Couple of singles for both Rohit and de Kock.

04:06 PM (IST)

After 2 overs,Mumbai Indians 22/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 20 , Quinton de Kock (W) 1)

This pitch is a paradise for batsmen. Three fours for Rohit. Played a drive through cover for first boundary, cut the length ball to deep backward point and got a boundary through mid-wicket as well. 13 off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

04:06 PM (IST)

Rohit Sharma v SRH in IPL: 13 innings, 193 runs, 19.3 average

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Rohit pulls the short ball from outside off to mid-wicket. Nabi did very well but could not keep the ball in

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! On good length by Khaleel but a lot of width offered and Rohit cut it to deep backward point

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! This a great pitch to bat. Khaleel went on length outside off as Rohit leaned forward to drive it through cover

04:06 PM (IST)

After 1 overs,Mumbai Indians 9/0 ( Rohit Sharma (C) 8 , Quinton de Kock (W) 0)

Basil Thampi makes a poor start as he spills a cut shot from Rohit Sharma at third man fence to gift away a four off Bhuvneshwar. Rohit gets a boundary on last ball as he charges down to slam a four on the up through cover. Nine off the over.

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Smashed through the covers by Rohit. Charged down to get close to the pitch of the ball and slammed it on the up through cover

04:06 PM (IST)

FOUR! Poor fielding! Basil Thampi spills a cut from Rohit Sharma to third man ahead of fence to give away a boundary

04:06 PM (IST)

Rohit Sharma surprised everyone with his decision to bat first! And now its’ time for him to help MI to put up a big total as he comes out to bat with Quinton de Kock. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to bowl first over for SRH.

Kane Williamson: New pitch so it should remain fresh for the entire match. We want to be aggressive with the new ball. Guptill comes in for David. And Basil Thampi comes in place of Sandeep Sharma. So, two changes for us. Last game was a strong performance for us. It is important that we try to build on that.

04:06 PM (IST)

Rohit Sharma: We want to bat first. It is a fresh pitch and should play well. We are aware about the dew factor. But we have bowled well in those situation. We want to keep things as simple as possible. And see where we go. We are going with the same team. We are playing in the home conditions but we know we still have to play good cricket to win.

Mumbai are back home for their last two games of the league stage. They are number 3 on the table now with 14 points. A healthy run rate should take them through to the playoff from here, but more importantly, they still have a chance of finishing in the top two if they win these last two games. Sunrisers are at the fourth spot on the points table, and a win here would almost certainly secure a playoff berth for them given the fact that they have the healthiest net run rate in the league at the moment. Mumbai has offered some of the best pitches this season with something in it for everyone. If Rohit wins the toss he would be looking to bat first and allow his strong bowling line up to defend anything they put on the board.

04:06 PM (IST)

“When you look at the pitch, you think bounce and pace. Nabi’s the guy that stays as the overseas bowler. Guptill has to play so well to get runs (for SRH),” says Kevin Pietersen in the pitch report.

MS Dhoni wound back the clock on Wednesday, smashing an unbeaten 44 against Delhi Capitals. The Chennai Super Kings skipper then went on to effect two lightning-quick stumpings as his side registered a comprehensive 80-run win at the Chepauk. Sunil Gavaskar described the veteran keeper-batsman as ‘multi-dimensional’, an individual who will play a massive role for India in the upcoming World Cup.
