Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could make their long-awaited return to domestic cricket next month with the Duleep Trophy that starts on 5 September and kicks off the new season of Indian domestic cricket. Apart from Kohli and Rohit, centrally-contracted players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, and Shubamn Gill are also expected to be part of the teams during the Duleep Trophy.

The teams for the Duleep Trophy will be picked by the end of August.

This surely raises questions about when Kohli, Rohit, and other star Indian players last played domestic cricket.

We take a look at some of the biggest stars and the last time they played domestic cricket in India:

Virat Kohli: Delhi vs Uttar Pradesh in 2012

Yes, it’s been over a decade since Kohli appeared in domestic cricket. But it’s no surprise given how he has been one of the most important players for Team India over the years and the Men in Blue are among the busiest sides in international cricket.

His last domestic match was a Ranji Trophy game for Delhi against UP in which he scored 14 and 43.

Rohit Sharma: India Blue vs India Red in 2016

Rohit’s last domestic cricket appearance came in September 2016 in the Duleep Trophy while playing for India Blue. He scored 0 and 32 not out in that match against India Red. The last time he played for Mumbai was in the 2015/16 Ranji Trophy season against UP. In that match, he scored 113.

Jasprit Bumrah: Gujarat vs Jharkhand in 2017

Bumrah’s last domestic match came during the 2016/17 Ranji Trophy season when he played for Gujarat against Jharkhand in January 2017. He picked up figures of 6/29 in the match.

KL Rahul: Karnataka vs Bengal in 2020

Rahul’s last domestic appearance has been fairly recent, in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals for Karnataka against Bengal. He scored 26 and 0 in that match.

Mohammed Shami: Bengal vs Kerala in 2018

Shami is expected to be fit for the Duleep Trophy.

His last domestic match was for Bengal against Kerala in 2018 where he registered match figures of 3/110.

Here are the last domestic matches for the following players:

Rishabh Pant: Delhi vs Vidarbha Ranji Trophy match in 2017

Ravindra Jadeja: Saurashtra vs Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy match in 2023

Mohammed Siraj: Hyderabad vs Vidarbha Ranji Trophy match in 2020
